Ken Griffey Jr. gave the Reds a brief 3-2 lead against the Cubs with career home run No. 595 in the third inning Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

Junior’s second home run this season caught sail in the strong Wrigley winds and landed a few rows into the left centerfield bleacher seats.

Cubs’ starter, and former Red, Ryan Dempster served up the 2-1 pitch that gave Cincinnati a 3-2 lead while also becoming the 379th pitcher Griffey has homered against in his career. The shot also marks Griffey’s eighth career home run at Wrigley Field.

Unfortunately, Griffey’s two-run blast with Jeff Keppinger aboard was not enough on the scoreboard as the Reds fell to Chicago 9-5.

Griffey wore No.42 in honor of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier 61 years ago. Last year Junior began the tradition of players wearing Jackie’s number after Commissioner Bud Selig approved Junior’s request to honor Robinson.
