Buster Posey NL ROY

Buster Posey is my NL Rookie of the Year.
He’s been the back bone of the Giants since being recalled May 29.
San Fran is nowhere near the West title without him.

Since his call-up, Posey is batting .324. That’s fifth highest in the NL and trails only Carlos Gonzalez (.350), Omar Infante (.338), Joey Votto (.329) and Matt Holliday (.325).

He’s hit safely in 12 of his last 16 games and 17 of his last 38 hits (45%) have gone for extra bases, including his game-winning home run Tuesday night at Wrigley.

Posey’s started 94 of 97 games, has 36 multi-hit efforts, and plays the toughest position on the field. He’s already logged more than 550 innings behind the plate, including six shutouts.

Among rookies, Posey ranks:
1st in average & slugging percentage.
2nd in on base percentage.
4th in RBI (62) & multi-hit games (36).
5th in HR (15).
6th in hits (118).
7th in doubles (23).

Of course, Buster is the ROY. I live on the West Coast and have the MLB package. I’ve watched almost every Giant game since they brought him up. Posey’s situational clutch hitting has been uncanny. That’s something that isn’t revealed by stats. I don’t watch Atlanta games but if their guy has had similar clutch hits, present the evidence.

Obviously, we agree Mr. Posey is the right choice for NL ROY.
Buster has the numbers, the Giants are thriving under him, and he’s earned the right to be a top candidate.

That said, Atlanta’s Jason Heyward isn’t chopped liver!
The 21-year-old has also been clutch this season, very Posey-like in some regards.

On Friday his three-run homer against the Mets was Heyward’s team-leading 12th GWRBI of the season.
That’s tops among ALL MLB rookies!

Heyward’s .401 on-base percentage leads the Bravos and ranks 7th in MLB.
He’s batting .326 since the All Star break and has reached base safely in 26 straight games.

The man has nearly hit .400 over his last 30 games (.393).
    This includes 6 doubles, 6 HR & 18 RBI.
His .511 OBP during the stretch is the best in the Majors!

I could go on about Big Jason’s No.s…but there’s no need to in my mind.
Heyward, without question, is a legitimate ROY candidate.
I just happen to like Posey better.
I think for sure the race is between these two guys.
Whether or not Posey wins it, I don’t know.

    Keep your fingers crossed, Dick!
    We’ll soon know!
